Rayman Origins (Wii)

Rayman – Origins is a 2D platformer, quite a rarity nowadays. The game was developed and published by Ubisoft for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Wii, Xbox 360 and Nintendo 3DS. It was released last November 15, 2011 in North America, November 24 in Australia and November 15 in Europe for three platforms: PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360. The game will also be released later on for the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS. The game’s story is about Rayman, his friend Globox and a couple of teensies. They fight off Darktoons and other evil monsters that somehow have taken over the usually idyllic Glade of Dreams.

Rayman – Origins has been commended for its beautiful art, sense and humor and the resulting charm from the combination of the two. Even the difficult parts of the game do not feel cheap. Gameplay is made excellent by variety and the fact that the controls are reliable and precise.  However, there are some causes for complaints, as well, such as the need to look for collectibles to unlock later levels and for bosses to be inconsistent. Despite the many challenges that the game offers, the player still feels in control because he or she is the one who is really in charge of the game. His or her fate relies on his or her own hands.
