NFL Blitz Review

NLF Blitz, the 2012 edition, is a revamp of not just the 1997 title with the same name but of the series as a whole. At least that is how it feels like because the 2012 title has somewhat been weighed down by the years of EA exclusivity and NFL interference but also buoyed up by high definition visuals and faster processing. NLF Blitz, however, still comes running with the goofy antics that have made football a whole lot more appealing even to non-NFL fans. There are some notable changes, however, such as the absence of player pile-ups and late hits.

The Good News About NFL Blitz

The zany take at football still manages to engage after all these years. Football non-fans will be thankful that the action is still bone-crushingly exaggerated with the occasional fire steaming up the gameplay. Those who are turning towards this title because of nostalgic reasons won’t be disappointed because the game still carries many of its well-known charms. The best thing about this is that fans get to enjoy both worlds, taking in the familiar and melding them with the new and modern.

It is also a game of discovery, wherein you unlock items that you can choose to pummel the competition basically. Because this is the year 2012, discovering things can be a lot more fun because of the smooth overall play. Backed up with 21st century processing, the visuals and animation are both engaging and fun. Also after all these years, the game can still make you feel all those strong emotions of exhilaration, excitement and more. Even the comedic commentary feels like home. This part of NFL Blitz may not contribute to the gameplay but it does contribute to the overall vibe of the game.

The Bad News About NFL Blitz

The frustrating part about the new NLF Blitz may also be its charm. Some gamers like the original the way it was and certainly the new version has most of the old package down to pat. The problem with this is that the game was not able to grab the opportunities laid down for it. There are still so many errors that have not yet been ironed out. Really? After how many years have passed? To get into specifics, just think back to the times when you want to scream because of silly AI mistakes such as your receiver going out of bounds when he was supposed to be turning upfield.

The Bottom Line

In the end, it all boils down to nostalgia. If you have always wanted to see NFL Blitz taken into the 21st century while reminding you of the good, old days then this game is made with you in mind. The fast-paced action and unique look at football will certainly bring you hours upon hours of entertainment. You cannot accuse the game of boring you, for sure. However, frustration can rise up from time to time because of the unsolved quirks you can still encounter in the game. Without those design foibles, the game is still pitch perfect.
