The Last of Us (PS3)

The Last of Us is a third person video game being developed by Naughty Dog for the PS3. It has horror, science fiction and action-adventure themes. The game was unveiled at the 2011 Spike TV VGAs.

The main characters of the video game are Joel and Ellie. Joel is a hardened forty-something guy who does odd jobs to get by in a world that has been nearly completely annihilated by a devastating event that happened almost 20 years ago. Ellie is the 14 year old that he needs to smuggle out of the military-controlled quarantine zone. The game is set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, or at least its post-apocalyptic version. The characters may end up killing others and scavenging in order to survive. Joel and Ellie have to venture into the unknown, into the wilds that are formerly bustling city streets.

According to teasers, a deadly fungus has taken over the world. The epidemic is so widespread that the world has been pretty much torn apart. The Last of Us has been inspired by several popular media, such as the TV series, ‘The Walking Dead’ and historical novel, ‘City of Thieves’ just to name two. Lead designer Neil Druckmann is proud of the game’s plot. The new IP’s development is a result of Naughty Dog’s splitting into two teams to work on two games simultaneously.
