About this Game
NFL Blitz refers to a series of video games that simulate a rather exaggerated version of American football. It was created by Midway Games and fronted by Lead Programmer, mark Turmell and Lead Artist, Sal Divita. The game features National Football League games and began in 1997 as an arcade game. Later on, the game was able to spawn home console versions as well as many sequels.
The Blitz series was re-launched in 2005 as Blitz – The League. The series no longer has the NFL license. So, the players, teams and even the league are all fictional. Ironically, the gameplay becomes a little more realistic. However, Blitz has still managed to retain its exaggerated gameplay. There is even a behind the scenes look at the lives of the players, with a somewhat tabloid-like style.
The game’s 2012 re-launch title is available on both PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. This time around, the game has come back to its roots in terms of style. It no longer feature late hits, with the developers following the advice of the NFL. Through the years, some of the gameplay has changed. Even the number of players per side has changed. In 1997, there were only seven. Then, there were eight in 2002. The 2003 release, NFL Blitz Pro saw eleven players per side.
