Machinarium is a puzzle point-and-click game that offers great adventure. The game had been developed over a period of three years by Amanita Design. It is interesting that the game makes use of hand-drawn background. Communication is made through pictorial thought bubbles. These animated thought bubbles mainly replace language. There are, of course, some tutorial prompts but the world of Machinarium does not contain either spoken or written dialogue. The world is very unique and dream-like, reminiscent of a darker, steam-punk version of the animated film Robots.
The point and click gameplay method is actually considered traditional in an adventure story such as Machinarium. Within its world, players have to solve puzzles and brain teaser. These puzzles are all linked somehow by an overworld.
The game revolves around the story of a robot called Josef who had to go through several quests within the Machinarium, which is a city. Josef’s journey has several stopovers, which are of course required if players want a rich adventure game, which the Machinarium, by the way, is. Lots of gaming sites have rewarded Machinarium some titles such as “PC Game of the Year 2009” and “Best Traditional Adventure Game of 2009”.
