About this Game
Star Wars - The Old Republic is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that is set in the Star Wars universe when the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic were at peace (way before the events of the original Star Wars movies). This peace was a very fragile and tenuous one - the Jedi have relocated to their new base at Tython and the Sith control Korriban where they have rebuilt a Sith Academy. While the two sides are at peace, conflicts frequently arose. Players can choose to be a member of either of the two available factions in Star Wars - The Old Republic - the Sith Empire or the Galactic Republic.
Player classes capabilities depend on the faction they joined. For Republic players, the Trooper, Smuggler, Jedi Knight, and Jedi Consular are available. For Empire players, the Bounty Hunter, Imperial Agent, Sith Warrior, and Sith Inquisitor are the available class options.
What makes the class system of Star Wars - The Old Republic interesting is that companion NPC (non playable character) characters and class customizations enable players to take on a wide range of game situations without having to need the help of other players. This game is also very heavy into dialog to maximize story immersion and character interactions. It appears to have drawn a lot of its gameplay sensibilities from the inspiration provided by the Mass Effect series which was also developed by Bioware. Star Wars - The Old Republic is slated for international release on Dec 20, 2011.
