About this Game
The First-Person Shooter Battlefield 3 is the the latest installment in the highly popular Battlefield franchise. After more than a year and a half since their previous release, Battlefield - Bad Company 2, Swedish developer DICE have returned with a new and powerful gaming engine, in the form of Frostbite 2, to have a go at seizing the FPS crown. Frostbite 2 powers Battlefield 3’s immensely detailed and fully destructible landscapes.
The combat zones depicted in Battlefield 3 are a mix of urban areas and open ground. The single-player campaign centers around the character of Staff Sargent Henry Blackburn who heads up a five man Marine Corps unit stationed on the border between Iran and Iraq. In your role as Staff Sargent Blackburn you will have to contend with firefights from enemy militia and earthquakes. The storyline unfolds in 2014 and Battlefield 3 sees locations as far a field as Paris, New York, Tehran, and Sarajevo, to name but a few.
Just like other games in the FPS genre, Battlefield 3 places strong emphasis on the multiplayer action, in particular, the game’s classic Death Match mode. Other favorites from previous Battlefield releases are also included, such as the Rush and Conquest modes. During multiplayer the different units are divided into four classes, each with their own objectives and specializations.
The PC version of Battlefield 3 will support up to 64 players on each server whereas, due to technical limitations, the console versions will feature rounds with only 24 players and scaled-down maps.
