Wing Commander: Fan Made Saga Installment Released after 10 years
Talk about commitment. One highly committed Wing Commander fan took 10 years to put together a Wing Commander game. Dubbed Wing Commander: Saga, the game packs a full campaign that comes complete with its own cut-scenes. The game is developed on the game engine, Freespace 2.
The great thing about this Wing Commander game is that it does not require Freespace 2 to run although it is built on that engine. The game is set during the timeline of Wind Commander 3. Players step into the boots of a pilot who goes by the call sign Sandman. The game’s campaign comes with 50 missions. This space shooter title is completely free. The Wing commander series started off in the early 90s and brought a new style of space gaming that is more similar to how space warfare was shown in Star Trek. Previously, space gaming was quite static. The series continued to develop all the way to 2007′s Xbox Live Arcade downloadable Wing Commander Arena. While Wing Commander Saga is a nice game, it is a fan-made game and it has been five long years since there has been an official Wing Commander game. This series’ lore is rich enough. It sure has quite a few fans. So what’s holding the rights owners to this IP from making a new installment?
