UFC Undisputed 3: The Game Suddenly Fires Up Players
For a time, gamers were not really paying much attention to UFC Undisputed 3. Suddenly, players are feeling very passionate about the game. What happened?
There were a lot of arguments against the game. These points may be what drove gamers away in the first place. People said that there was nothing special about it and its being a licensed tie-in made it doomed. Even the fact that THQ published it was met with a lot of negativity. I didn’t really completely agree with the opinions given above but still it really looked like UFC Undisputed 3 would end up just another forgettable game. Again, so what happened?
This week, the game topped the UK charts. The title also became one of the most-searched in several regions. Two reasons may have been backing the game’s early success. One, people may not be that interested in the other games that had been launched along with it. For example, Reckoning may not have appealed to the tastes of several of these gamers who went for UFC. Two, the UFC license is becoming powerful.
UFC was founded back in 1993 but it became very successful recently, starting late last 2010. The mixed martial arts game now often gets its matches shown on Cable TV. THQ was also wise enough to make use of the now-popular property very well. It didn’t go for cheap tie-ins but instead went for creating a proper or decent take of the game. The franchise is serious. The studio had also taken other sports-themed video games seriously. These recent efforts include WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2011 and WWE 12.
UFC Undisputed 3 now holds a Metacritic average of 87 on the PS3, and an 85 for the Xbox 360. It seems that THQ has made the right decision by taking and treating sports-themed properties very seriously.
