The Elder Scrolls 5 – Skyrim: Dawnguard Trademark Filing Fuels Expansion DLC Speculation
It makes for a cool detective puzzle. Put on your Sherlock Holmes hat and play along with me.
Clue number 1: Zenimax, the parent company of Bethesda, the developer of The Elder Scrolls 5 – Skyrim has filed for a trademark for “Dawnguard.”
Clue Number 2: Dawnguard sounds very similar to the city of Dawnstar in Skyrim
Clue Number 3: The filing mentions “downloadable software.” DLCs are downloaded content packages.
Clue Number 4: The Elder Scrolls 5 – Skyrim has a quest entitled “Pieces of the Past” which features a museum located in the city of Dawnstar. The quest involved the Order of the Mythic Dawn. Maybe, Dawnguard refers to this location or game lore?
Clue Number 5: Bethesda has earlier mentioned that they don’t plan to issue lightweight DLCs.
Putting it all together, Dawnguard is a possible game expansion type DLC for Skyrim. We expect it to be quite a beefy DLC due to Bethesda’s earlier statement and also because of how side quests are organized in Skyrim, the DLC can get content-dense pretty quickly. Others speculate that the filing was for another Bethesda project regarding a mobile title. Regardless of which it is, let’s hope Bethesda releases a DLC soon since many players are zipping through the (many) side quests in Skyrim.
