Soul Calibur 5: Namco Releases New Trailer
A new trailer for the upcoming Soulcalibur 5, the sixth installment to the Soul series of fighting games published by Japan-based Namco Bandai, shows an an improved lobby system. Although the online features of its predecessors were more than satisfactory in the net code point of view, fighting games usually do not have very good chat or lobby systems. The social functions in this latest installment will be a welcome change.
The enhancements to its lobby system were in line with upgrades to the game’s multiplayer capabilities. A lobby system is a common feature in online games which involve a lot of players and is used in order for all of them to communicate with each other outside of the main action. The new trailer shows off a lobby system with additional spectator support and also allows text chats. This will let players comment on matches in progress. Gamers can easily imagine what this new chat capability will lead to. Comments like, “Oh no, not another Maxi button masher,” probably. The trailer is just one of the previews released by Namco Bandai to showcase enhancements in the latest installment.
Another recent trailer shows off the title’s focus on giving its scenes a cinematic quality. Also showing some of the scenes included in this trailer, many gamers are coming to think the developers of Soulcalibur 5 will lay a heavy hand on the lighting side of things. Although the visuals are gorgeous, no question about that, the glow-y, shiny patina in almost all of the scenes can be a little distracting at times. Not that it really matters to the series’ worldwide fan base, who see the game as much more than the sum of cinematic visual style.
