Skull Girls: Trailer featuring Painwheel Released
Skull Girls’ publisher Autumn Games has released a new trailer for the fighting game. Showing off some fast gameplay, courtesy of Painwheel ( a.k.a. Carol). Once a normal girl, but now something else! Other details about her, coming directly from developer Reverge Labs: “Painwheel was kidnapped by Valentine and delivered to the Anti-Skull Girls Labs’ secretive Lab Zero. There she was implanted with the synthetic Buer Drive and Gae Bolga parasites and infused with experimental Skull Girls blood, transforming her into the monster she is today. Violent and unstable as a result of these experiments, as a precaution she’s mentally controlled by Lab Zero’s powerful psychic director, Brain Drain. Fueled by rage, she draws her power from her pain and fury. Despite that, the soul of that scared young girl still lives on inside this monstrous body, desperately fighting off the onslaught of voices that would control her.”
The trailer also shows off the game’s cartoon-y 2D visual style, a wise move since the game’s story is a bit lighthearted. The game is set in a fictional world of Canopy Kingdom where everyone wants to take hold of the Skull Heart. Using Painwheel as the focus, the trailer also shows off the fluidity which the game is capable of. Her spinning blades, which are clearly the reason for her name, are made to maim and draw blood.
Gamers already got their first look on Painwheel in October when Reverge Labs released some artwork. Set for launch in Early 2012 without a definite date yet, fighting game fans will be sure to keep Skull Girls in mind.
