Minecraft – Xbox 360 Edition: Xbox LIVE Arcade Report Record Breaking Sales

It has only been available for 24 hours but Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has already broken all previous digital sales records for the first 24 hours of sales. Not only that, according to Markus “Notch” Persson, the game’s creator, Minecraft – Xbox 360 Edition saw a profit after just one hour.

That is a very impressive feat. Especially considering that the title is actually suffering from some technical problems with some players finding that they are unable to play the game once they have purchased a digital copy, because Minecraft -Xbox 360 Edition will only work properly with HD television sets. This is due to the split-screen multiplayer function. Many fans have found themselves caught out by this issue as Microsoft did not make that clear in the game’s description in the Xbox Market place, relying instead on an in-game warning. Obviously not helpful for players who have just purchased a copy they cannot use. Despite these problems the early feedback coming from gamers is that the game is great! Minecraft has been a run away success for the PC and players have been waiting for an opportunity to enjoy Minecraft on consoles.

Mojang signed an exclusive deal with Microsoft to bring Minecraft to Xbox 360 only. It’s a shame that PS3 users are excluded from playing Minecraft, though any one with a smartphone can play the mobile version if they want.
