Metal Gear Rising – Revengeance: First playable at E3 2012 in Los Angeles
In this week’s Famitsu, Hideo Kojima confirmed that Metal Gear Rising’s playable build will be first seen at E3 in June this year. He was able to make this reveal by participating in a roundtable interview with the magazine. Platinum Games CEO Tatsuya Minami and producer Atsushi Inaba were also part of the conversation.
The interview managed to raise the question on how Kojima Productions and Platinum came to collaborate with each other. A documentary video discusses just how the partnership came to be. It was released after the game was unveiled at the VGAs. According to Kojima, the collaboration had a serious turn starting at the Vita announcement press conference last January. Minami had said that stealth was to be removed from Metal Gear Rising because it just didn’t jive with the rest of the new direction the game has taken.
Kojima is certainly on the side of change lately. He is actively leaving behind old projects and ideas and making a lot more risks and experimentations. This is a good thing if we view it as an artist’s way of finding new creative ground to sow on to. Fans may not immediately understand new moves but will come around if they find the new stuff to be a whole lot better or at least more interesting because of their newness.
We still have a few months to go to see where the Kojima Productions and Platinum Games collaboration will take them. Maybe this collaboration and the new features they have spawned will turn out to be just great. At least, we are crossing our fingers and whispering rituals right now. But it is Kojima. He ought to have great ideas up his sleeve. Anyway, the full game Metal Gear Rising will be out this year for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
