Metal Gear Rising – Revengeance: Docuvid Lays Game Bare
Konami had just released a video of Metal Gear Rising – Revengeance with English captions. It comes with an explanation from franchise creator Hideo Kojima on the game’s change in direction. The 25 minute video also somehow proves that the game was developed under troubled circumstances. Revengeance was even almost cancelled before it came out all reinvented, surprising the lot of us. Some fans are a little upset about the idea that Kojima had little to do with this latest instalment.
This is what Kojima had to say about this: “Since Rising was an alternative title, I was just operating as a producer and leaving everything else to the new team. I wasn’t involved in the story much, and I tried not to get too involved in the project itself. He also said that he did check on the game around April or May 2010 when he finished Peace Walker. He thought then that the characters “were all fine. However, the game design itself wasn’t clear or well decided.”
Kojima explained that the team had to create and also recreate. The process was so tedious that it caused delays. The franchise creator then said that he even went to look for another studio that could take on the project. He even approached international developers but still wanted a Japanese team to work on the ninja swordplay. He went for Platinum Games, which developed Vanquish.
Last weekend, the new trailer was launched at the VGAs. The change of studio from Kojima Productions to Bayonetta and Platinum Games was also revealed. Fans’ reactions to all the changes were pretty mixed.
