Mass Effect 3: Beautiful Concept Art

If you are playing Mass Effect 3 and don’t want to spoil the fun, stop reading this and get back to the game. If you haven’t played Mass Effect 3 and you don’t plan to play the extremely popular science-fiction role-playing action adventure game, you can feast your eyes on one graphic that seems to contain all sorts of spoilers.

This graphic shows the lack of a boss fight and climactic dramatic showdown that fans were expecting. Indeed, the graphic shows a control deck with the Mass Effect 3 crew gathered around. No fallen final boss. No massive damage from an all out shootout reminiscent of a “Tony Montana goes to space to off a Reaper Sosa” galactic Scarface scene. This scene highlight why the ending of Mass Effect 3 disappointed so many fans. Many fans were looking for a very physical ending. However, a few fans, definitely a distinct minority, like the quiet unwinding of the game since it involves Shepard giving in to the Catalysts so he can either fuse into their controls and destroy them or otherwise control the Reapers or destroy the Reapers.

All these choices, frustrating to game fans, end with Shepard’s death. It was a quiet and emotional and symbolic closure to a trilogy. Of course, when you give an audience that is used to more action, such a “boss fight” might seem, well, anticlimactic and unsatisfactory.
