F.E.A.R. 3: Release suffers another delay
Video game release date delays are quite big deals in this high stakes, big budget, and highly competitive industry. Unless you are the developer of Duke Nukem Forever (which elevated the shame and hassle of release date postponement to nearly the level of art), delays cause a lot of problems regarding branding, distribution, fan expectation, and ultimately, maybe even sales.
It also could be symptomatic of changing market conditions, personnel issues, development funding, corporate pressure, and other not-so-pretty factors happening behind the scenes. F.E.A.R. 3 was originally delayed early in 2011 from a March release date. Pushed back to May, F.E.A.R. 3 is now set to launch in June according to a tweet by UK-based retailer GameGears. Following up on this Tweet, Warner Brothers confirmed the delay for F.E.A.R. 3.
I don’t want to be harsh but while the F.E.A.R. series brings a macabre and occultic tint to the first person shooter genre, unless your title is labeled Battlefield 3 I highly doubt it would push the genre forward. The FPS genre is saturated and maybe F.E.A.R. 3′s key contribution to the genre is to service its previous installments’ fanbase.
