Dragon Age 3: Bioware suggests upcoming DLC and more
Mike Laidlaw of Bioware was in attendance at a PAX panel last week and shared a few gems regarding Dragon Age 3. He also hinted at upcoming DLC for Dragon Age 2. Dragon Age 3′s storyline will revolve around the long brooding war between templars and mages. Players who’ve tracked the story of the Dragon Age franchise since Origins would have seen this coming. The templars have been quite hard on “apostates” (as they call mages) and there’s no love lost on the part of the powerful mages for the often intolerant templars. In fact, templar-mage conflict already form the backbone of some quest storylines in Dragon Age 2. In addition to the full blown conflict, players will get to travel to far flung cities previously mentioned in earlier installments – Tevinter and Orlais. The player’s mission in Dragon Age 3 is to calm both sides of the conflict.
Lucky PAX panel attendees also got to glimpse at a huge map which was “”four to five times larger than Ferelden.” This map has been referred to as the future of the series. Origin’s Warden storyline “is over” supposedly while there’s still quite a bit of the Hawke narrative left to share, according to writer David Gaider . Varric, the crossbow-wielding dwarf from Dragon Age 2, will appear in an upcoming Dragon Age 2 DLC. Speaking of DLC, The Legacy DLC was so well received that Bioware will be using that as a model for updates.
Interestingly enough, combat for Dragon Age 3 appears to be headed for some modification. Combat will center around”preparation, teamwork, and positioning.” There will be less button pushing and more focus on advanced planning and strategy. The panel agreed that Dragon Age 2′s AI wasn’t as sharp as they would have liked. Look for some improvement on that front.
