Deus Ex – Human Revolution: New TV Spot highlights cybernetics appeal
Deus Ex – Human Revolution has a new video out. In fact, it’s one of the TV spots. The upcoming first person action adventure RPG game’s video starts with a paraphrase of Darwin: It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, it is the one who is the most adaptable to change. The voice over plays as images of, among others, cells dividing, brain scans, Stonehenge, cybernetic surgery, and musculo-skeletal enhancement surgery fill the screen. The vignette then ends after the lead character smashes a wall with his fist – a well known scene that was recycled for the spot.
This ad spot’s graphics quality is superb – fluid motion, excellent rendering, smooth edges, and no hokey awkward pixelation. The ominous voiceover sets the tone of setting up the conflict between the unquenchable human desire for self-improvement and enhancement and a deeply embedded psychological queasiness about tampering with nature. Deus Ex – Human Revolution is actually a prequel of previous installations. It covers the era where human enhancements focused on cybernetic or mechanical fusion with human anatomy.
As you probably remember, the previous two installments of the Deus Ex franchise featured nanotech enhancements. This installment tells the story of Adam Jensen as he tracks the people behind the conspiracy which sets off the events culminating in the formation of UNATCO which figured strongly in the first two installments of Deus Ex.
