Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 3: Title is Focused on “Fun” Not Sales
In a recent interview with Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 3 representative, Robert Bowling, said that Modern Warfare 3 is not just about sales, it is also about having fun, talk about managing expectations. According to Bowling, “We don’t care is 3 people are playing it or 3 million people playing it. If there are three people having a great time, then we have done our job correctly and we will be happy… We don’t care about sales numbers, we don’t care about competition, we don’t care about beating anyone. Our 100 percent focus is making a game that we are going to love playing, that we are going to be proud of, and that we know that our fans are going to play.”

It is one thing to say that your title is about having fun if you are going off in a new direction, instituting a radical change to the franchise or your series has not really been selling a lot so you are just focusing on whatever fanbase you have to have fun, but it is another story if you throw out that line when you are looking at a 10 figure market and you are trying to stave off a determined competitor. Just to be fair to Modern Warfare 3, not only does this statement manage expectations for Modern Warfare 3, but it also telegraphs the priority and orientation of this title towards casual gamers.
There are two types of FPS gamers – hardcore gamers, who are focused on the technical aspects, graphic enhancements and gameplay innovations, and casual gamers, who are just interested in a fun, exciting and entertaining game. Do not judge them too quickly because the casual gamers outnumber the hardcore ones. Regardless, Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 3’s main focus is that their players have fun.
