Alan Wake’s American Nightmare: Dev Diary Combines Goofy and Creepy
Remedy has just released another developer’s diary video for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, which is not a sequel of the original but rather a standalone, downloadable game. This one is already the third episode of a series.
The third video is pretty informative when it comes to Alan Wake’s evil doppelganger, Mr. Scratch. According to the developers, this bad guy is one of the video game world’s scariest and most compelling at the same time. Well, don’t you get that feeling that you do want to get to know the guy more even if he gives you the chills? The first episode talked about how the developers managed to put in a lot of content into the downloadable game. Then, the second episode had the Remedy team saying basically that the spinoff is basically the members of the team having fun. The third episode is just awesome. It is mostly about the deadly villain and how Alan Wake has to chase it/him to prevent this monster, ghost or something else from hurting the people he loves. Alan Wake is not only armed with a flashlight but he also has weapons that can be fired against enemies who will try to kill him and stop him from getting at Mr. Scratch.
The developers are mock serious during the clip. They are very focused on the audience. You might end up getting distracted by the guy who is mopping the floor in the background. What is he cleaning off? Is it blood? Then, we see the middle guy disappear, grabbed from above by mysterious hands. Is Mr. Scratch really there? Remedy manages to combine creepy and goofy in the same developer’s diary video. The team members avoid being boring.
Near the end of the clip, you get to see some gameplay action. Alan Wake’s American Nightmare will be out on February 22, 2012.
