Alan Wake: Brand new Episodes of Night Springs Released
Not technically gaming news, but we thought you might be interested anyway. Three new episodes of the mysterious “Night Springs” TV show featured in the thriller suspense horror game Alan Wake debuted this week at Joystiq. Inspired by Rod Serling’s classic black and white scary and mysterious TV series, The Twilight Zone, each Night Springs episode features a mysterious story that either confounds, spooks, mystifies, or otherwise scares viewers.
The first episode of the three never-seen-before videos is dubbed “What’s in a Name.” The scene opens with an older man and his younger “apprentice” under an overpass. The older man is chiseling on the concrete. Apparently, he is chiseling his name. When confronted by a patrolling cop, the old man said he is chiseling his name. The cop said that the name being chiseled is the name of the town-Night Springs. Exactly, said the apprentice as he asks the cop to leave. Awed, the cop leaves. Apparently, there is a mystical and magical quality to the old man’s actions. He is, in effect, ‘claiming’ each town they are in and making it his own. The apprentice says the cop should be aware of who he is serving.
Freaky. Mildly scary. Definitely intriguing. While not on the same level (not even close) as Rod Serling’s classics, the Night Springs segments do provide nice story add-ons and “flavor nuggets” to Alan Wake’s overall stew of mystery and intrigue. The Night Springs “shows” are definitely not meals in an of themselves. We cannot actually show you the video because it is exclusive to Joystiq (you can follow the link above though). But we can bring you some old school Night Springs. Don’t let the bed bugs bite!
