WWE ’13: Turn Yourself into a Wrestler

NBA 2K12′s biggest draw is its My Player functionality. Players customize their own ball player and track his career through the NBA. The sense of identification with one’s player is what make My Player such a popular feature in NBA 2K12. It could possibly be one of the bulwarks of 2K Sports against EA Sports’ incoming attempt to retake the basketball simulation game crown it lost for a few years.

Given the huge amount of fun players can have with player customization, it holds a lot of promise for wrestling simulation games too. WWE already gives players a robust tool set for creating their own personal characters that can be as weird or as wonderful as they can make them. Imagine coming up with Justin Bieber, Harry Potter, Spider-Man, and The Hulk-all suiting up and going mano a mano against WWE stars. Why not take it to the next level? Why not scan your image and put yourself in the game and see yourself body slamming WWE stars like John Cena and The Rock? It’s not like the technology for this does not exist. The Kinect and Move add-ons have cameras that can scan your likeness. If only WWE can support these hardware add-ons’ scans so you can see yourself take part in a ringside rumble in WWE 13.

Given the fortunes of THQ recently (layoffs, lower sales, and community manager THQ Tank leaving), the company should actively explore ways it can bring even more fun to digital ringside wrestling entertainment. Other games are already doing this-the PS Vita’s Reality Fighters lets you scan your face with the handheld’s camera and import your image. Get on the ball, THQ, you need to hit WWE ’13 out of the park.
