Assassin’s Creed 3: Crowd Dynamics Improved

You’ll no doubt be pleased to hear that Ubisoft have revealed that they have overhauled the way the NPC and crowd dynamics work for Assassin’s Creed 3. This means that you will no longer see NPC’s chewing the fat for hours on end without moving.

The other big revelation is that crowds will now centre around specific points and events and then disperse. Just like real crowds. As so much of Assassin’s Creed 3 is set in rural areas, creative director Alex Hutchinson has also clarified that NPC’s include animals, who will follow the same physics. Herds of animals will scatter when startled, the animals are huntable and will of course react accordingly to being hunted. Players will be able to really immerse themselves in the tracking and hunting of animals. These are just some of the improvements that have come with the game’s new Anvil Engine. Hutchinson said; “We want people to see some species just by navigating the world, but many others will require the player to use tactics and strategy to find and kill them. In a sense, we want players to assassinate animals more than just shoot them.”

If players choose to play this way they will be rewarded with alternate gameplay loops. Gaming access to previously unavailable content. This comes in the form of different clubs, for example a hunting clubs. By joining that players will unlock new areas of the map and bonus missions.  It’s all sounding quite promising!
