Assassin’s Creed 3: Character Depth of Key Importance

Assassin’s Creed 3 protagonist Connor Kenway (Ratohnhaké:ton) will benefit from Ubisoft’s new found desire to create characters of depth in the upcoming third Desmond adventure. Stating that previous assassin’s had been driven by one motive, Altair – duty, Ezio – revenge, creative director Alex Hutchinson wants to create somebody who is fresh , earnest, realistic and deep.

Apparently the key to Connor’s depth of character is his background. Although his motive is partly revenge he is also driven by a much bigger force, tied up in the backdrop of the American Revolution. Connor’s personal development it very much the focus in Assassin’s Creed 3, which sets this installment apart from the other storylines. The story spans a 40 year period from Connor’s birth, to him joining the assassins, and the war, finally resulting in the resolution. It is clear that players are going to be given the opportunity to connect with Connor more so than any other protagonist and his manifold motivations will offer gamers the perfect chance for exploration. Connor must not only defeat the Templars but he also has a personal motivation as a native American, looking out for his people’s place in a changing America.

Hutchinson is under no misapprehension though. Connor will not be able to protect the interests of his people. Adding yet another dynamic to the proceedings.
