The Walking Dead – Episode 4: October Release

The Walking Dead is a strange beast. When asked during a Podcast the other day, which game I thought gave the most illusion of choice, this series was my top pick. I had bandied about the idea of maybe Skyrim or Mass Effect, but when The Walking Dead was suggested I knew immediately that the nail had been hit on the head.

At first I didn’t think that. Episode Two was a remarkable thing to behold, and I felt like I had genuine choice, but Episode Three came along and the thin veneer was shattered. Without wanting to spoil anything for those reading this who haven’t played the game suffice to say the Episode Three of The Walking Dead felt like there wasn’t anything I could do to stop the events that happened.

Anyway, maybe the developers can pull it back with Episode Four. The trailer for the episode showed the gang desperately trying to protect Clemantine from a predator, going to show that it might be the zombie apocalypse, and everyone is desperate to find food, and fuel and shelter, but those sexual predators will not give up, like cockroaches that can’t even be killed by nuclear explosions.

Hopefully Episode Four, which is due out next month, will see a return to form for the series. This next episode will be the penultimate instalment for the whole series is released in December. Will you be playing The Walking Dead – Episode Four? And do you agree that the game gives only the illusion of choice. Write in the comment section below.
