Soul Calibur 5: Trailer Churns Out the Cheese and Then Some
Using real actors for video game trailers can be very risky. More often than not, these actors end up making the whole video clip look lame and cheesy. After all, these are not well-known actors backed up by a hefty budget that can provide them with the hot gear and special effects. They are starring in a video game trailer instead, dressing up to become some video game characters.
The SoulCalibur 5 trailer with the real actors introducing it was just plain lame during the first few seconds. There is an attempt to make the whole thing look cooler than it ended up but the result was not as brilliant. Of course, the actors more likely have done their best with the material but the trailer still ended up lame. We see some real actors dress up in the character’s costumes and then head out apparently to face some enemies. And then a little bit of magic happens. The real live actors transform into animated SoulCalibur 5 characters that started battling it out with some other characters. Then, it proceeded to what you would expect from a SoulCalibur trailer. There is almost non-stop action with glowing flashes that emit from weapons and even from the introductory titles. By that time, it was red hot. Surely, the makers of this video trailer were able to figure it out? However, they did not edit out the beginning, which could be a lot better.
There are many other ways in which a game can be introduced to the world. Can you think of some awesome ones? Do you know the witty graffiti work from Namco? That was just done last week in London. Hopefully, the Soul Calibur 5 trailer’s creators should think things over before making another cheesy ad. They should also try to lay low on all the glowing.
