New Teaser details released
Konami’s Horror game franchise, Silent Hill has a new installment Silent Hill 8 (working title Downpour) in the works and some details have leaked out about this anticipated release. Based on the limited release demo, the town is so huge for players to explore that the developers saw the need to use a subway train system. If the release mirrors the demo exactly, that’s quite a huge map. The demo focused on the border areas of the town which were previously shown in prior versions of Silent Hill but were not open to actual exploration.
Unlike prior versions, there are no distracting hospitals or schools in the demo’s area but there’s a lot of opportunities for side quests. This gives the game a more focused feel. In terms of combat game play, the demo only featured an ax, but it did reveal how weapon usage will play out in Silent HIll: Downpour. Each usage of a weapon degrades the weapon. After some usage, weapons will break down and will need to be replaced. The weapon inventory is gone in this version so you will have to be quick on your feet and anticipate trouble ahead. Interestingly enough, you won’t be able to run from boss fights since these are quick time events.

Based on the demo, water will play a crucial role in the game. Similar to how snow figured in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Silent Hill: Downpour will be released in 2011 for both the PS3 and Xbox platforms.
