Red Dead Redemption 2: Is Rockstar working on an Open-World Game?
Rockstar San Diego, developer of Western-theme action game Red Dead Redemption, is planning to launch an open-world game which will have fighting and hunting elements. It posted an ad for an AI programmer, to wit: “Rockstar San Diego has an opening for a qualified AI programmer who is ready to help us create the best open world experiences, and push the limits of Artificial Intelligence in areas such as pathfinding, combat, and decision-making, with a particular eye towards making it all look believable to the player.”
The company might be planning for the next installment in the Red Dead series or something similar to it. Red Dead Redemption, the second installment in the series, has met with a lot of success since its 2010 launch. Unlike its predecessor, a shooter game developed by Capcom and released in 2004, Red Dead Redemption is an action-adventure game with an open-world design. This design allows players to explore the the game’s world, which takes places in early 20th century as the American West is fading fast but not without a fight. The title met praises from everybody and has been included in several best game lists for that year and thereafter. Some gamers even include it in their lists of best open-world games ever, even surpassing some titles in the Grand Theft Auto series, which was developed by a sister company UK-based Rockstar North.
It is hard to think what anyone else could add to the game. Like the ad mentioned, there may be additional features in the areas of “pathfinding, combat, and decision-making.” That can really elevate the playing experience! There are no definite news yet about anything regarding a sequel for Red Dead Redemption, but be sure that any word will be met by excitement.
