ModNation Racers: Title Has No Online Play Feature
Sony PlayStation San Diego Director of Product Development, Erich Waas posted in the official PlayStation blog that there are no online racing plans for ModNation Races.
This is unfortunate because the new console, the handheld Sony PlayStation Vita, has 3G connectivity. But head-to-head racing is certainly not part of the Vita title. This, in my opinion, borders on strange. You cannot even challenge friends on race unless you are together in one room.
Waas expects disappointment from fans but he explains that the game was designed with a focus on how portable games are often played, quick, easy and possibly several times a day. Online interaction, challenges and other forms of game-related socialization are left for times that are most convenient for the player.
Because nothing can be done right now, all you can do is look at the positive side of things. At least you can challenge your friends in ModNation Racers – Roadtrip all the while earning lots of points. Waas does not just talk about the lack of online play but he also discusses the game’s check-in system in which players get rewarded for going round the globe. Each time a player checks in away from their usual spot, they can earn Travel Points. All he or she needs to do is to turn on the built-in GPS. These Travel Points can ramp up the player’s leader board rankings and even open up additional Track Studio parts.

What do you think of this game feature? Is this feature worth not having online racing for? In the end, this will all depend on your individual gaming needs. Are you the sort of person who wants to play online, make challenges with friends wherever they may be? Or are you content with being able to pick up a portable gaming device and playing wherever you end up even if you do play alone?
