God of War’s Kratos stars in PS3 version

The buzz swirling around next year’s launch of the fully rebooted and reinvigorated Mortal Kombat title just reached a fever pitch with the official announcement that God of War’s Kratos will be one of the playable characters in MK. Kratos is far and beyond the most popular character in the God of War series and would be sure to draw even more players to MK. The announcement was made in the soon to be issued Official PlayStation Magazine’s January issue.

Understandably, concrete details of the Kratos inclusion are quite sparse at the moment. While most fans are ecstatic about this development, some have expressed misgivings about the failure to add him to the storyline. All we know is that he will appear and that might be good enough for most PS3 fatality fanatics who envision the standard
hardcore fatality gory sequence MK players have come to love and expect. It would definitely be quite a treat to see Kratos go head to head against beloved members of the MK pantheon like Sonya and Katana.

Not to be outdone by the Kratos announcement, fans of the Xbox platform have been tweeting up a storm regarding speculation of an exclusive XBOX 360 version of MK and which exclusive characters would be making a crossover appearance ala Kratos in the PS3. While character speculation has ranged widely from the absurd to the ridiculous (some even mentioning Blinx the Time Sweeper cat), it’s still too early to tell.
