The Last of Us: Naughty Dog Had Other Game Ideas
You might think that Naughty Dog has immediately thought of The Last of Us after working on some Uncharted instalments. In fact, the developer was thinking of an entirely different game. Evan Wells, the developer’s co-president admitted that they were thinking of creating a ‘Jak and Daxter’ game.
At this point, we are already engrossed by The Last of Us even if the game may actually end up getting a release next year and not this year. The game was introduced at the Spike VGAs last December and gamers are clamoring now for more information about the game. It is weird knowing that this is not Naughty Dog’s first choice as a game to follow the Uncharted titles. Wells revealed that they were planning on bringing back the Jax and Daxter series but they soon dropped it for the new IP. They only thought of bringing back the series because there were gamers who were asking about it and when it will be coming back. They were planning to apply the lessons they have learned while developing the Uncharted titles on the Jax and Daxter series.
The Naughty Dog co-president, however, does not elaborate on why the Jax and Daxter comeback did not happen. However, he did say something about doing a “disservice” to the series and its fans by changing the game towards the “direction that the company had this passion for.” Also, Naughty Dog would have ended up creating a reboot and not a completely new title if they went with Jax and Daxter. Wells still gave Jax and Daxter fans hope that maybe one day the two characters will still be able to come back.
For those who cannot wait for that comeback, you can purchase the Jax and Daxter Collection, which is out now for the PS3.
