Silent Hill – Downpour Developer Diary Video released
Silent Hill 8′s developer Diary video has been posted on Youtube. According to produce Dean Shatsky, Silent Hill 8 will focus on an immersive experience of an atmosphere suffused with psychological horror. Based on the sequences in the video, it sure looks like it since this installment of the Silent Hill franchise is darker, gloomy, broody, and mysterious. Which is exactly what the game is shooting for according to Tom Hullett Senior Associate Producer – complete distinction from previous versions. It definitely doesn’t look boring or predictable – thereby preserving the scare factor that has helped Silent Hill garner quite a loyal following of gamers.
While the look and feel of Silent Hill 8 appears to try to maximize psychological effect, its developers emphasize that they try to make sure that Silent Hil 8 doesn’t contradict any story or plotline elements from previous installments of the series. This is good news for both longtime and new followers of the game.

The game’s design director, Brian Gomez, revealed that the design team for Silent Hill 8 is based in the Czech Republic. Gomez notes that working in the Czech republic ties in with some elements of the Silent Hill story and lends itself to the general atmosphere of the game due to the historic legacy of the town the designers are in. Gomez relates stories about Soviet era torture chambers and ‘gulag-style’ buildings which lend itself to the gloomy design sensibility of Silent Hill 8.
