Shadows of the Damned: New Announcement trailer tears through tons of demon flesh
If you’re a big Resident Evil or Dante’s Inferno fan, Shadows of the Damned will definitely be right up your alley. This upcoming title features Demon Hunter Garcia blasting his way through wave after wave of demons, ghouls, arch devils, and other macabre ghouly assailants.
Developed by Grasshoper Manufacture and published by EA, Shadows of the Damned’s videos have an eerie cast due to the macabre lighting. I thought this was a nice touch since it infuses the game with a ghoulish, almost otherworldly, cast. The ambience is definitely there in Shadows of the Damned.
However, the gameplay doesn’t seem to be anything to write home about. We’ve been down this road before. I guess the whole motif of killing demons is quickly getting played out–if it hasn’t already. Let’s go through the checklist of demon killing games, shall we? Wave after wave of ghoulish assailants? Check. Progressively morbid and demonic images assailing the lead character? Check. Spooky settings and medieval or gothic or Victorian architecture? Check. Wow. Looks like we nailed the formula. Anyway, I wouldn’t dismiss this title just yet. It does have some creative Japanese talents behind it and its probably worth it to defer judgment until more release videos come out.
