Saints Row – The Third: THQ Fires 170 Staff According to Report
According to some reports, THQ has just let go of 170 employees as it sets off to change its business strategy. Perhaps, the laying off is the first stage of this strategy? Anyway, it was Kevin Dent, who is Tiswaz Entertainment’s CEO of video games consultancy practice and IGDA mobile special interest group head who reported this.
Just last month, Dent also claimed that THQ had cancelled every single one of its 2012 software line-up. The publisher since denied this claim. This time around, Dent took to Twitter with this statement: “This is probably going to break in the morning, I have sat on it for a week or so. The culling at THQ was 170+ souls including @markdeloura”. Dent also went on to say that those who wanted to investigate the matter further would best send an email to Mark DeLoura, who is VP of Tech at THQ. Senders can then wait for the auto reply. What was DeLoura’s response? “Hey that’s cheating
” That was all DeLoura had to say. So far, there are no further comments coming from other sectors.
THQ, on the other hand, is battling other problems recently. It was just threatened with getting taken out of the Nasdaq stock exchange list. Now, that is trouble. Maybe the publisher really needs a new strategy. THQ is planning to discuss more details of this new business model during its Q3 conference call this February 2, 2012.

What do you think? Is there a truth to Dent’s report? He has proven wrong before but this time around, we are still waiting for evidence that 170 people got their jobs taken from them. If this were true and that THQ did fire all these people, is the publisher justified in doing so? Maybe it will be releasing a statement soon.
THQ are always full of surprises. What about the Team Fortress 2 – Saints Row – The Third crossover?
