Prototype 2: Trailer reveals new protagonist
Radical Entertainment’s ultra-violent sandbox game, Prototype has an upcoming sequel Prototype 2. The trailer, positioned as a briefing video for the game’s bad guys, the Black Watch, traced the story of the Blacklight program. Launched in 1963, this project’s viral infection destroyed the town of Hope, Idaho. Infected individuals became zombie-like creatures. There was only one survivor of the viral infection, Elizabeth Green (aka “Mother”). She is called “mother” because she was incubating the infection. The Blacklight project created a clandestine military arm called Black Watch.
Through the years, the Black Watch and Gentek, the creator of blacklight, continued to work together to contain the infection. In 2008, a Gentek scientist by the name of Thomas Mercer stole a vial of the blacklight virus and it infected him. Gentek thought it would kill him but he developed superhuman strength and abilities. He later came back to Gentek to free Mother. Soon after, the virus infected all of New York. Gentek and Black Watch wanted to nuke Manhattan but Mercer hijacked and destroyed the nuke.
Mercer has now come back, 14 months later, and this is where Prototype 2 picks up its story. New York’s Manhattan has been divided into Red, Green, and Yellow Zones. The green zone is peaceful. Yellow zone is now a virus-infested slum. The Red zone is filled with virus-infested zombies. The narrative above is the enemy’s perspective, the protagonist of Prototype 2 is a former Black Watch sargeant who infected himself with the virus. Black watch identifies him as the enemy. The video shows him taking out Black Watch military assets. The trailer indicates a April 24 2012 release date.
