MLB 12 – The Show: Career Mode compared to MLB 2K12
When comparing games, we all have to agree that at some level, it is all subjective. With that said, in terms of objective standards, MLB – 12 The Show is overall the better game when compared to MLB 2K12.Still, MLB 2K12 does pack better pitching mechanics. Across most features, MLB 12 – The Show is the better choice. However, in terms of Career mode, the picture gets murky.
Both games start you off at the AA league and you have to claw your way to get to the big leagues. That’s how it is in real life baseball, why should it be different in video games, right? Well, MLB 12 – The Show changed this lately so even if you are mediocre baseball player, you can’t still get promoted to the AAA league even with lackluster performance. However, The Show doesn’t straight up promote you, you can get traded to go up the ranks. MLB 2K12 doesn’t do auto promotion or even promotion to trades. You have to claw your way up. Even if you had a good season, you may not necessarily leave the bush leagues. Some players might find this annoying but others like it because there is no surprise (like in MLB 12 – The Show) when you get promoted. MLB 2K12 has a stats screen that shows the attribute levels you have to reach to get your ticket to the Big leagues.
This gives you a better view of how your efforts are panning out than the combo of stat measurements The Show gives you but with no clear indicator of how close you are to graduating to the majors. In most fronts, The Show is a better game. It has a better in-game rewards system and resource attribution system.
