Madden NFL 12: Latest series installment gets rave reviews
Sports simulation fans can be a tough crowd. Given the rapid rate of evolution of these types of games, simulation game titles are only as good as their last good release. Compliments are but grudgingly given and the bar of excellence is set high. It’s no wonder innovations in this game genre proceed at a rate of knots. This is also due, in no small part, to the annual nature of these games. Not only does the content have to have cosmetic changes to track the changes in teams, personnel, and coaches, the games also have to have new features to both retain the existing fan base and attract new players.
Given all these dynamics, the rave reviews Madden NFL 12 is getting from hardcore sports fans are worth noting. Simulation game development has become a game of expectation management. Whenever a new installment is going to be released, the developers invariably make an inflated claim. When the tire hits the road, the tire is usually flat. Not the case with Madden NFL 12 apparently. Just based on gamers’ reactions at E3, many are sensing that Madden NFL 12 is paying attention to the overall presentation of the game. Also, getting rave reviews is the franchise’s mode addition. One key detail, that has gotten a lot of criticism in the past, is the fake routes that balls make from passer to receiver. Apparently, Madden NFL 12 has fixed that and gotten rave reviews. I’m sure more reactions are coming soon.
