Battlefield 4: Warfare to Remain Modern for DICE

Forgive the title, I have purposefully mixed EA’s Battlefield with Activision’s Call of Duty, because I feel that EA have decided to copy Activision by pumping out yearly releases. I am firmly in the “it’s too soon for Battlefield 4″ camp.

That being said, DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson has said that the series will continue it’s focus on contemporary warfare. Troedsson told GDC Europe that it was the wishes of fans along with market research and other factors that have persuaded them to stick to what they do best. ”There’s a lot of things inspiring us as to how the franchise will move on. Everything from fans’ feedback, to market research and, of course, what we want to build ourselves. It’s not just one single thing,”

What this means, in reality, is that Battlefield 4 will not be along the same lines as the Bad Company series. Many fans wil be disappointed with this revalation as it was widely hoped that the next DICE announcement would be a new Bad Company game, and not a numbered Battlefield.

If you are not feeling disenfranchised with the announcement of Battlefield 4, EA have offered fans the chance to get guaranteed beta access if they pre-order the Limited Edition of Danger Close’s sequel.

DICE have made it clear that they are big fans themselves of the Bad Company series, the fact is, the studio can only make what EA tell them, and the numbered Battlefield games bring home the bacon. This just seems yet another example of the way profit chasing publishers actually damage the industry.
