Battlefield 3: Instant Unlocks Added by PS3 Update
This week’s PS3 update is sure to bring a lot of smiles to Battlefield 3 fans. This week’s update is packed with features that have often been requested by game fans. However, there is one inclusion that is sure to heat up some debate depending on where you stand on the issue.
DICE, the developer of the hit first person shooter game, is going to offer a way for players to get a chance at an even playing field. What is the “problem” this new feature is trying to fix? Many fps fans camp out online and have logged several hundred hours and, naturally, they have progressed well in the game’s multiplayer mode and have unlocked high level items. DICE wants to even the playing field by giving three packs to newer players or players that don’t play as much which would serve to accellerate their progress through the game. These packs will instantly unlock items in the game. In essence, DICE is offering late-comers, newcomers, or, perhaps, lazy gamers, a way to cut the line and get out front. There are a total of three “shortcut” packs. The first is the Kit Shortcut Bundle which automatically unlocks all the items that are unique to the game’s four playable classes. The second pack unlocks all vehicles. The third pack unlocks all weapons and vehicles. Does this seem fair to you? Is the only thing separating a gamer who put in the time to unlock items and a new player is the willingness and ability to throw a few bucks at DICE’s face?
It would not be surprising to see if some players would consider this a form of cheating. Still, if you are a player who has invested countless hours playing the game to unlock items, you have something newbies and lazy players don’t-countless hours of experience and honed skills which no amount of automatica unlocks can “even out.” You can take comfort in that and it is not cold comfort either.
