Batman – Arkham City: Rocksteady is Not Working on a Tie-In Game for Upcoming Batman Film
Rocksteady has been behind some video game hits starring the Caped Crusader, such as the more recent Batman – Arkham City and the title before it, Batman – Arkham Asylum. Game Director Sefton Hill has been asked by Official PlayStation Magazine if he and his team are working on a video game take of the upcoming film, The Dark Knight Rises. He says no, unfortunately.
Hill expresses his love for films and how he loves Christopher Nolan’s take on Batman, as evident in the films Batman Begins and Dark Knight. He admits that he finds it interesting that his team was working on Asylum when they saw the Dark Knight film. The film was then too late to have influenced the game. He still looked out for how the story progresses in the film and how it compares to the game’s narrative. The game director compares the narrative in films and in games. A film runs for about two hours. So, it follows a particular narrative. On the other hand, a game may need a story worth 15 hours or so. This means that there is a main narrative as well as side stories, in the case of Rocksteady’s project – 12, to supplement the narrative. Unfortunately, Hill asks us to rule out the possibility of a tie-in game for The Dark Knight Rises. Anyway, if a tie-in game is under development, it would have been revealed by now. The last Batman tie-in game was Batman Begins from Electronic Arts back in 2005. There was a planned tie-in game for The Dark Knight. Some of the actors even contributed in the recording of dialogue. The project, however, was abandoned.
If we are not getting that Batman tie-in game, the best that we can hope for is a sequel to Arkham City. After all, the game did really well at sales.
