Batman – Arkham City: Riddler’s role revealed in new trailer

As we reported earlier, Batman – Arkham City has framed The Riddler into an interesting role in the game. Instead of direct physical confrontations, Riddler will combat Batman on a mostly psychological level – complete with screen projections and taunts. Makes sense. On a purely physical level, Batman can flatten Riddler faster than you can gulp down some M&Ms. Also, this positioning fits well with Riddler’s persona in the comics series.

The latest trailer for Batman – Arkham City shows the Riddler taunting Batman and daring him to take his challenges. Batman – Arkham City will feature more than the usual interaction between Batman and the Riddler – he doesn’t just leave clues for the Dark Knight to solve, there’s more. The more of his riddles you solve, the more Riddler Challenge rooms you get to unlock. These rooms are located throughout Gotham and feature a lot of traps and hostages to rescue. Just like with Arkham Asylum, Riddler Trophies are yours to discover, collect, and solve for experience points.

The challenge rooms are really “dungeons” and you will need to use a lot of Batman’s skills to navigate and safely complete these rooms. Rolling spikes, electric floors, and other traps are standard features for these rooms. It also appears that the Riddler Trophies will be more complicated than those offered in Arkham Asylum.

I really like The Riddler, I’ve always felt, even in Batman: The Animated Series, that there was something very sinister about Riddler, this trailer proves it, and thankfully, in the recent mainstream comics, Riddler has returned to his bad old ways after teaming up with Two-Face to take down Gilda Dent (Harvey Dent’s ex who has returned to Gotham for revenge, after the events of The Long Halloween-another favourite of mine).
But…a question to some of the people who wish to reply to this comment…when the hell will we have another Batman movie, where Riddler is the main villain? Riddle me that!
Christopher Nolan certainly can’t do it anymore, what with The Dark Knight Rises being his final Bat-film (originally, for The Dark Knight, Riddler was going to be the main villain for that film, but Nolan decided against it, opting for The Joker instead and who can blame him, he still could’ve used Mr. Nygma anyhow, oh well :-( ).
IF we get another rehashing Bat-flicks at the cinema again (hopefully not in the far too distant future), USE THE RIDDLER AS THE MAIN ENEMY…and yes, make him sinister, just like the “Jigsaw” elements in this trailer for the game.
    Go Riddler!!
