Hugo Strange Revealed as the newest villain

Rocksteady Studios has released the video trailer for Batman: Arkham City and besides the stupendously realistic graphics, we are treated to two possible villain revelations. The trailer released on Youtube clearly features Hugo Strange and hints at a surprise villain. Diehard Batman comic fans should have no trouble recalling Hugo Strange. He made his debut in 1940 as an ingenious scientist using his high tech skills to rob banks. He has since had several run ins with the Dark Knight.

Given the technological background of Strange, it is no surprise to learn from the trailer that he has turned Arkham Asylum patients into massive heavily muscled criminal zombies by injecting them with growth hormones. Unfortunately, there’s one side effect–they turn into wild savages.

The SPIKE VGA set featured before the trailer also shows a possible new villain in Batman: Arkham City. There’s buzz going around in the gaming blogosphere that the character revealed in the SPIKE VGA set is no other than the Calendar Man. The Calendar Man was featured in the 1996 Batman comic series, Batman: The Long Halloween. Calender Man is an Arkham Asylum inmate whose personality changes with the months of the year.

It is still not clear whether he actually plays a big role in Batman: Arkham City or was just featured to add a little background flavor to the overall action and insanity surrounding Hugo Strange and his hormone-enraged zombie army of Arkham asylees. I guess, we’ll have to wait for either another trailer or the game release to find out.
