PS Vita: Lucky Japanese Get a Square Enix Event
It may not be entirely relevant for us in this part of the world but we can certainly look on enviously as Square Enix have announced that they will be dropping the prices of all their existing PS Vita titles in Japan. The reason for this price drop is unclear, but it is hoped that both Square Enix and Sony will feel the benefit of the cash injection.
Running from May 1st until May 7th, all Square Enix titles will see significant price drops in the Japanese PlayStation Store. Highlights include Army Corps of Hell, which will sell for half price ($25 instead of $50) and Lord of Apocolypse ($36 instead of $61). The average price cut is about 2,000 yen (25 bucks). The event is going to be called the “Hell’s Apocolypse” sale. Nice. No word yet as to whether or not Square Enix are planning on holding the event anywhere else in the world. Saying that, I wouldn’t feel confident betting money on it. It could be that Square Enix are focussing particularly on raising sales in that one region.

The PS Vita (Credit: Sony)
The PS Vita has enjoyed fairly healthy sales in Japan, but events like this may prove to boost the console’s sales. Although this drive is coming from Square Enix, the fact that the discounts will only be available in official Sony PlayStation Stores show that there must be some cooperation there. Who knows what the punters will purchase once they are through the doors?
