XCOM – Enemy Unknown: Action and RPG Fans Should Be Interested
Legendary director Sid Meier is hoping that players will enjoy XCOM – Enemy Unknown’s non-strategy elements. He thinks that many are looking at the game with the premise in mind. This is, after all, a game with aliens. Meier reveals that his team has been dreaming of being able to entice not just one type of player. They are targeting not just strategy game players but also action players and RPG players. He believes that XCOM is packed with all the cool elements that define all those sort of games mentioned. He says that those elements are “mixed together in an interesting brew where you get some RPG, you get some strategy, you get some action.” That really sounds like a unique and engaging game.
He also says that the team aims to be able to earn the interest of different types of players so that they can introduce these players to one-of-a-kind gaming that he thinks in XCOM – Enemy Unknown. Meier wants action gamers to see that strategy games can be fun, too. Similarly, he wants strategy gamers to see that action games are worth the try. Meier declares that XCOM – Enemy Unknown is not trying to “conform to a genre” but is instead using a popular topic and giving it a different and more exciting twist.
The title was revealed in early January. It is set to be released in the fall on major platforms. It is a companion game to 2K Marin’s shooter, which is simply called XCOM. Both games are based on or sometimes called reboots of the classic 1990s franchise that produced turn-based tactical games.
