Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marine: THQ Enjoys Better Than Expected Second Quarter
Although THQ has not released as many video games as other companies, it still earned a net sales worth $146 million. The company had just announced its second quarter’s (covering July to September) financial figures for the 2012 fiscal year. The increase it has recently enjoyed is considered significant especially when compared to last year’s second quarter, which produced a mere $77.1 million. If only it does not have to experience more losses as the years go by. I guess more investment is required for bigger projects and the bigger projects are the ones that bring in the dough. So, THQ earns more and also loses more. Oh, well.
Based on the second quarter, the best performer from THQ’s released video games was Warhammer 40K – Space Marine. The game sold 1.2 million units. This sales statistic already counts the units sold across all platforms. Almost half of the units were sold in North America. THQ CEO Brian Farrell said that older catalog titles, such as Saints Row 2, were able to perform well. This is Farrell’s partial explanation on how THQ managed to surpass expectations. People are just on the lookout for the sales generated by new releases. Yeah, old ones can also be re-energized.
“We are encouraged that our second quarter performance exceeded our expectations, particularly in a quarter with a light released schedule,” Farrell went on to say. Maybe he is feeling a lot better about next year’s second quarter, which will be witness to Saints Row – The Third and of course, WWE 12 will factor in then. These games are starting to heat anticipation up right now.
