Warhammer 40.000 – Dark Millennium Online: THQ Deny Cancellation
IGDA Mobile SIG chair Kevin Dent, through some tweets, alleged that THQ was having trouble financially and that the studio was about to cancel its 2014 game line-up. This line-up includes Warmhammer 40.000 – Dark Millenium Online and now the company is supposed to be selling itself out to those who are interested.
THQ’s Australian PR Department, however, issued an opposing statement: “THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO.” According to THQ, the line-up is only going to be reduced to move focus from the “kids’ boxed sector,” which did not do well. Think of the latest version of the uDRaw, which did poorly. THQ went on to say that their “slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platform and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the best talent in the industry.”
However, regarding Warhammer 40.000 –Dark Millenium, THQ “has not made any decisions.” This statement is quite hard to read because it casts some doubt on whether the studio will continue developing the mentioned title.
You may still consider the THQ statement good news because at least the rest of the 2014 line-up is apparently safe and because THQ seems to be safe for the moment. Kevin Dent’s tweets surely invoked fear in the hearts of THQ fans. We wonder where he got the idea that THQ is bankrupt. I guess the studio has also displayed some of the symptoms for awhile. Maybe the Warhammer 40K indecision is somehow related to financial problems. We don’t know really but we can only cross our fingers that Dark Millenium will still be pushed forward.
