The Witcher 2: Third developer video diary released
The third developer’s diary video for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has been released and it lays out the new developments in the next installment of the Polish-developed Witcher series. The third video reveals some of the main character’s opponents: Iorveth the badass elven guerrilla and Ambassador Shilard of Niflgard, the ever shifty politician turned nemesis. The video also reveals a marked shift and emphasis on a quality narrative for the Witcher epic. As mentioned by the series’ storywriter, Arkadiusz Borowik, however much RPGs focus on stories and characters, these elements are not very easy to write.
He notes that Witcher 2 focuses on the challenge of a more story-intensive direction for the series. The video also drops hints regarding the scale of The Witcher 2. As another developer notes, “as if we zoomed away from the map include(d) entire countries this time.” This sequel has its work cut out for it since the first installment got relatively mixed ratings from critics. One area of The Witche that got a some bad reviews was the story quality. No wonder the developers a focusing on a beefier story line on a wider scale.
Based on the developer’s diary, The Witcher 2 definitely aims to be quite ambitious and shoots for a more epic scale. Witcher 2 is slated for PC release in May. There’s also a rumor floating around that there might be console support coming soon. However, we can’t substantiate that speculation at this point in time.
