The Elder Scrolls 5 – Skyrim: Bethesda Hiring for Cutting-Edge Technology

Now that The Elder Scrolls 5 – Skyrim has been released and has dominated the sales charts of its genre, Bethesday Game Studio’s Todd Howard has his sights set on a new epic release. The company has announced that it is looking for experienced programming staff to help develop “cutting-edge

technology” for an as yet unannounced game. The game will run on a future generation of consoles. According to the job listing, PC fans can breathe a sigh of relief since the PC will also be supported by the project. The job listing is asking for applicants who have at least 5 years experience with game development and must have worked on multiple titles that have been shipped. This pretty much closes the door on newbies. Applicants also must have extensive experience optimizing and programming for the Playstation 3 and Xbox consoles. While not absolutely required, DirectX 11 experience is a big boost. It is also a plus if the applicant has actually experienced playing a video game title developed by Bethesda. This is an interesting announcement on many levels. First, the only definite next generation console publicly revealed is the Nintendo Wii U. As for the Xbox, the software developer kits (SDK) packages for the next-generation Xbox 720 code-named “Durango” are reported to be delivered anytime soon.

Sadly, it looks like Sony might not participate in the next wave of console launches and focus its resources on Playstation 3 and Vita. According to some industry observers, the next Bethesda Softworks project may likely use the Creation Engine (just like Skyrim). This is supported by the statement from Bethesda VP Pete Hines who said that whatever game the studio works on in the wake of Skyrim will be taking advantage of the technology they have previously developed.
