Portal 2: Custom Toy Creator Offers an Eyeful
Have you seen the latest creation from Christian Hooton? Well, first of all, Christian Hooton is a custom toy creator. He has designed toys for video games before. This guy is really creative and talented as a craftsman. He has brought to us toys that will always remind us of our favorite video games.
His latest offering is quite something else. You watch it but it also seems to watch you. It is, after all, a 7-inch Portal 2 Wheatley toy that happens to give off light. The toy designer worked on Wheatley for about a month. That is quite admirable because I probably would have worked on a toy for a year and will still end up with nothing after the period. Wheatley, by the way, is made of light plastic. This engaging toy has an eye in the center, which is movable and even able to light up. The sculptor confesses that the “weird thing about [Wheatley] is that it’s dangerously close to be able to be used as a puppet.” The eye is balancing in the ball’s center, positioned over a gyroscope. Thin fishing lines that look like strings also help with the balancing.

Hooton certainly has the hands of the ultimate craftsman to be able to come up with Wheatley. What would you want the toy creator to sculpt the next time around? Are there game creatures that you would like to see him fashion? I believe that he would be happy to oblige us with our special requests. What do you think of Wheatley, though? Would you be happy to own something like it? Would you rather just look at it from afar because it can get quite disconcerting to have a large eyeball in your room, apparently watching you at night.
